When trying to achieve a goal, consistency in doing ANYTHING is the key. So whatever method you choose to achieve your goal, it has to be consistent.
Consistency is “Always acting or behaving in the same way”. Humans lack the ability to stick to something over a long period of time. You start all committed, then over time, you skip a workout, forget to food prep and shop for food and meal planning and you steer further away from your goals.
Commitment: Doing the thing you said you were going to do, long after the mood you set it in left you. You made your goals when you’re in a great mood. It’s easy to stick to a goal when you’re in a great mood. The challenge is, sticking to your goals long after the mood has left you. When you feel like it the least. This is the critical point in your journey. The stop start process kills progress and its why people never hit their goals. Inconsistency is the reason behind your frustration.
You have to put in the work. You have to do the work when the results are not initially showing. You have to keep showing up. Keep doing the work. When you see no changes, no results, keep putting in the work. 1 week, 2 weeks, all this food prep, workouts completed, monitoring your food intake, shopping, eating healthy everyday, still no results. This is where many quit. You’ve put in a few weeks, expect to already look leaner or have more muscle.
The smarter people will keep putting in the work. They’re driven by trust and belief that it takes time before you see results.
Then, you’re 6 weeks in. You’ve made sacrifices. You step on the scale, you’ve only lost 1kg. This is where another group of people quit.
The next group of people keep working. Then the results start to flow. Now it’s easy. Once the results come, the results continue to come. You don’t have to work as hard, it’s not as hard, it becomes easy.
It’s the stop and start process that kills progress.
When you’re in the early stages of your attempt at change, you have to work hard to get that water to flow from the tap. At the start you have to stay consistent.
Life will be much easier if you focus on staying consistent. This is why consistency is one of the most valuable attributes of success.
It’s not how you start, it’s how consistent you are.
What can you do now? Have a look at your patterns over the day….and over the week. Where exactly is your consistency letting you down.? What meal? What day? What time of the day is it? What part of the week is it? What environment are you in when you are the least consistent?
Once you have determined where you are the least consistent, this will help you to highlight what your limiting factors are. This is now where you can focus your effort to make changes. Ask yourself why didn’t I do the task I set out to achieve? What is standing in my way.
Identify it and change it.
